Dental Implants Made Simple: Dr Kasia Mazur Answers Your Questions
What inspired you to specialise in dental implants?
- Implants in general are a fantastic treatment option to be able to provide for my patients. It can
really be transformative for many people. It can improve their quality of life, confidence, ability to
enjoy their food more and improve their smiles. Implant dentistry is by its nature multidisciplinary
and draws on knowledge from all sub-disciplines of dentistry in order to be provided at a high
standard. As a person who likes to build and create things, it is an enjoyable area of dentistry for me
to practice. It is also a rapidly evolving field with exciting advancements happening all of the time.
For patients who are nervous about implants, what do you say to put them at ease?
- I completely get it. Implant treatment can feel really daunting. Ultimately, I find that for many
patients simply understanding the process better is often enough to alleviate many of these worries.
I am a chronic over-explainer, but it’s because I always want to make sure that my patients know
exactly what is going on at every stage of treatment and that they feel they have been given enough
time to understand and ask as many questions as they need to. My approach is to take things step by
step in a slow and methodical way, from careful and thorough treatment planning through to taking
time perfecting the final result. If you are a nervous patient, then I want you to be able to feel
comfortable sharing any worries or anxieties about treatment so that we can work through them
together and manage them as best we can throughout treatment.
What advances in implant dentistry are you most excited about right now?
- As in all of dentistry at the moment, modern digital workflows are revolutionising and streamlining
our implant treatments. From intraoral scanning to digital planning and design, it is streamlining
and improving treatment planning for patients.
Are there any myths about dental implants you’d like to clear up?
- One big misunderstanding about implants is that because they are not teeth, they won’t develop any
problems. Implants require lifelong maintenance and care, just like your own teeth. If patients
ensure that they are coming for regular reviews and maintenance, then implants have the potential
to function healthily for a very long time. Without this supportive care, then issues that could be
easily prevented, corrected or repaired can turn into bigger problems. I will always encourage
patients to save or preserve their own teeth where possible. Our own teeth if looked after properly
have the potential to last our lifetimes. But when needed and where appropriate, implant treatment
is a fantastic long-term replacement for a single missing tooth or multiple teeth.
What drew you to join GoodLight Clinic?
- I am delighted to be joining GoodLight Clinic as their implant dentist. It is a dynamic and forward
thinking clinic providing high quality, holistic treatment and care. The clinic has a wonderful team
that all have great patient care are the centre of their minds and I’m excited to be joining a
multidisciplinary team.
Outside of dentistry, what do you enjoy doing in your free time? Do you have a fun fact or surprising hobby that patients might not expect from an implantologist?
- Outside of dentistry, I love nothing better than a hike with friends, ideally with a few pub stops en
route! I love making things, so when I have the time like to wood carve, do life sculpture in clay at
our local artist studios and hope to branch out into stone carving soon.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to someone considering an implant for the first time?
- If you’re thinking about it, it’s always worth a conversation. There are many options to restore
missing teeth and it’s important to review all of these options to understand what is best for you
individually. Implant treatment can sometimes feel like a complicated procedure, but understanding
your options and taking time to explain the treatment stages can help to demystify it.
